?url_ver=Z39.88-2004&rft_val_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Adc&rft.title=Ramsey's+Ramsey-sentences&rft.creator=Psillos%2C+Stathis&rft.subject=Realism%2FAnti-realism&rft.description=In+the+present+paper+I+want+to+do+two+things.+First%2C+I+want+to+discuss+Ramsey%E2%80%99s+own+views+of+Ramsey-sentences.+This%2C+it+seems+to+me%2C+is+an+important+issue+not+just+(or+mainly)+because+of+its+historical+interest.+It+has+a+deep+philosophical+significance.+Addressing+it+will+enable+us+to+see+what+Ramsey%E2%80%99s+lasting+contribution+in+the+philosophy+of+science+was+as+well+as+what+its+relevance+to+today%E2%80%99s+problems+is.+Since+the+1950s%2C+where+the+interest+in+Ramsey%E2%80%99s+views+has+mushroomed%2C+there+have+been+a+number+of+different+ways+to+read+Ramsey%E2%80%99s+views+and+to+reconstruct+Ramsey%E2%80%99s+project.+The+second+aim+of+the+present+paper+is+to+discuss+the+most+significant+and+controversial+of+this+reconstruction%2C+viz.%2C+structuralism.+After+some+discussion+of+the+problems+of+structuralism+in+the+philosophy+of+science%2C+as+this+was+exemplified+in+Bertrand+Russell%E2%80%99s+and+Grover+Maxwell%E2%80%99s+views+and+has+re-appeared+in+Elie+Zahar%E2%80%99s+and+John+Worrall%E2%80%99s+thought%2C+I+will+argue+that%2C+for+good+reasons%2C+Ramsey+did+not+see+his+Ramsey-sentences+as+part+of+some+sort+of+structuralist+programme.+I+will+close+with+an+image+of+scientific+theories+that+Ramsey+might+have+found+congenial.+I+will+call+it+Ramseyan+humility.&rft.date=2004-05&rft.type=Preprint&rft.type=NonPeerReviewed&rft.format=doc&rft.identifier=http%3A%2F%2Fphilsci-archive.pitt.edu%2F1762%2F1%2FRamsey%252DPsillos(final).doc&rft.identifier=Psillos%2C+Stathis+(2004)+Ramsey's+Ramsey-sentences.+[Preprint]&rft.relation=http%3A%2F%2Fphilsci-archive.pitt.edu%2F1762%2
