Abstract

Published 23 years after The Leibniz-Clarke Correspondence, Du Châtelet's Foundations of Physics offers an update on all the foundational issues familiar to philosophers of physics from the Correspondence, including space, time, motion, force, gravitation, atomism, and the methods of physics. Du Châtelet contributes to all of these, moving the debates forward and opening new lines of argument and enquiry. She provides a systematic treatment of the most pressing concerns in the foundations of physics of her day. In this paper, I offer an overview of her contributions by way of an introduction to her philosophy of physics.
