Abstract

It is argued that recent work by Okasha and Otsuka on causal interpretations of Price’s equation motivates regarding it as applying to causal structures whose effects cannot be estimated because of latent common causes, and then ignores that feature on grounds of “simplicity,” that it introduces an ill-warranted counterfactual account, and that a causal account is given better by partial derivatives of the right hand side of the equation.
