Abstract
This paper develops and defends the material theory of induction as it stood in an earlier stage of its development in 2014. A more complete and later defense is provided in the open access monograph, The Material Theory of Induction. BSPSopen/University of Calgary Press, 2021. This paper gives an account of an inductive inference associated with Galileo's discovery of his famous law of fall. This example is also recounted in Chapter 2 of The Material Theory of Induction.
